whoop experience and cancellation
I bought Whoop back in 2024 after several health scares and paranoia. Initially, I expected it will solve my paranoia and help live life peacefully. It worked. To some extent. It helped calm my nerves and thought of having a heart attack each time I felt slight pain in chest slowed a bit.
It still didn't go away. Also, Whoop was super helpful several times in last 2 years during sick times. I could see in advance that I was heading towards a bout of sickness. When I had bronchitis, it helped me see how rapid my heartbeat was. Then in coming days, I monitored my HRV and RHR and it perfectly correlated with recovery.
I once pushed myself too hard too fast in gym. Since then, I started relying on Whoop for reducing my heart health paranoia. I used to keep an eye on Whoop app when running or cycling to reassure myself that I wasn't pushing myself too hard.
I tried different techniques before going to bed. I also experimented with different foods to understand how they impacted my sleep score. Initially, I was excited to see the changes. After some time though, I could see how flawed the whole thing was.
Lots of times, app would report incorrect heart rate, stupidly low or high HRV and shit just didn't make sense. I also noticed that my mood began depending on Whoop score. I would wake up feeling rested, take a look at Whoop score in yellow and immediately feel tired, sick and broken.
Eventually, I lost my trust in the app and started living life without it. I've gained back my trust in health and paranoia is settled for most part. I don't worry about dying at any instance as frequently as I once did.
So, I've decided to cancel my membership this year. I would invest that money into stocks or use it for something else instead. I don't need a watch to tell me how rested, healthy or sick I am. I'll go with my own feelings instead. Fuck this feeling like a cyborg.
I'd say it was definitely worth the try. Expensive but still worth it. But I can make it on my own from here.
