Stillness is beautiful.
We can desire mansions, yachts, jets, millions in banks, and a happy loving family. We can desire millions of chanting fans, endless endorsements, and massive queues of paparazzi waiting to pounce on us. In the end, what we really want is peace. What we crave underneath all those layers is stillness.
The ancient philosophers understood this quite well. The human desire to attain endless materialistic stuff all stems from anxiety of not having enough in the time of need. I have followed the same suit. I have not allowed myself to be still in speech or actions for a long time. I’ve been cultivating more of it recently. I enjoy it: the quiet mornings and some afternoons are a bliss.
When you have inner stillness, you speak differently, with better cadence and grounding. Other people around you sense something solid inside you. When they see you, unbothered by external circumstances, they are subconsciously drawn to you, respect you more, listen attentively, and are more inclined to want to be in your inner circle.
Stillness is the way of life.
